Learning Outcomes
Students who graduate with a B.A. in Early Childhood Education should be able to …
- use their understanding of young children’s characteristics and needs, and of multiple interacting influences on children’s development and learning, to create environments that are healthy, respectful, supportive, and challenging for all children.
- know about, understand, and value the importance and complex characteristics of children’s families and communities.
- know about and understand the goals, benefits, and uses of assessment.
- integrate their understanding of and relationships with children and families; their understanding of developmentally effective approaches to teaching and learning; and their knowledge of academic disciplines to design, implement, and evaluate experiences that promote positive development and learning for all children.
- identify and conduct themselves as members of the early childhood profession. They know and use ethical guidelines and other professional standards related to early childhood practice.

Degree Requirements
(Total semester hours: 124-125)
1. General Education (40-41 Hours)
A. Liberal Arts (21 Hours)
History (3 Hours)
Complete 1 course (3 Hours) from the following: Non-Western Civilization (3 Hours)
A course (3 Hours) in culture other than Western European.
Foreign Languages
Students shall demonstrate in one foreign language the ability to comprehend the topic and main ideas in written and, with the exception of Latin and Ancient Greek, spoken texts on familiar subjects. This ability can be demonstrated by achieving a score of 2 or better on a USC foreign language test. Those failing to do so must satisfactorily complete equivalent study of a foreign language at USC. Spanish recommended. B. Science and Numerical Analysis/Reasoning (13-14 Hours)
Natural Sciences (7-8 Hours)
At least one science course must include a lab. Life Science (3-4 Hours)
3-4 hours from the following: Physical Science/Earth Science (3-4 Hours)
Numerical Analysis and Reasoning (6 Hours)
Complete one option from the following: Option Two:
- Two courses in Statistics (STAT)
C. Electives (12 Hours)
Complete 9 hours of Liberal Arts or Science. 2. Specialized Content Preparation (18 Hours)
